Today we had so much fun. We went to Monkey Bizness with some good friends. I had never been before, and we had a blast! The boys absolutely loved it. It's an indoor playground. We stayed a lot longer than I expected, but it was the perfect way to spend the day. Derek crawled everywhere, and I even took him down the inflatable slide. Ryan climbed everything there was to climb, and ran around until he was red in the face. The boys had a really good time and it was really nice to get out of the house and spend time with friends.

Little artist
Here are 2 pictures that Ryan drew. The first one is a backhoe, the second one is a car. I was pretty impressed, especially since I didn't give him any tips or advice. He drew these all on his own. He is growing up so fast!

Ryan
After a long hiatus from blogging, I am happy to say that I am back! Isn't it ironic that major life changes keep us too busy for blogging, when those are things we should be writing about most? Anyways...I wanted to start by dedicating this post to my favorite 3 year old.
Since Derek has been born (almost 8 months ago!), Ryan has kind of gotten the lost in the craziness of everything. I try to give him the attention he needs, but he's so independent and capable of doing so many things on his own that I take him for granted A LOT. It's really too bad because he is doing and saying the funniest things.

Ryan LOVES to play doctor. At least once a day we pretend that we are sick. We first have to get the imaginary ambulance parked by the front door of our living room. Then I pick him up and we go to the "hospital" which is usually on the couch or on mine and Clayton's bed. We start with a check up. This includes checking the heart beat by placing the imaginary stethoscope in his ears, then listening to the the heart (sound effects included). We then check eyes, ears, nose and mouth. It's amazing the things we find sometimes. There might be grasshoppers or an elephant or even chocolate cake in our ears. Typically we find a broken bone during the assessment and have to wrap it up, usually with a belt or blanket. Once the patient has rested, we unwrap the affected limb and do some stretches (this must be Clayton's influence). Once the patient is given the all clear, we start again.
This kid has an AMAZING imagination. He has so many imaginary friends that I can't keep track of all of them. Just the other night Sophia and Frannie came over to play. He had to open the door to let them in. He usually speaks both sides of the conversation, which is hilarious. When it was time for bed, Sophia and Frannie "slept" in the office. Ryan woke up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. As I was tucking him into bed, he told me that his friends had gone home. Even in a half awake state, he manages to remember his imaginary friends. Perhaps we need to play with REAL friends more...
Ryan can be pretty shy in unfamiliar situations, but at home, he is quite the performer. He love to make up songs. If we are putting on his socks, he sings a song about socks. If we are playing with cars, he makes up a little song about cars.
One of my favorite things about Ryan is how sweet he is. He is very aware of what we are doing, and always asks us about it. He often asks "How was your day?" or "How did you sleep?" He is always very concerned when someone is sad, even if it's someone on TV. Ryan is my tender hearted little boy.
Derek absolutely LOVES Ryan. Ryan is usually the last one up in the morning. When Ryan walks down the stairs, Derek gets a huge grin on his face. He will crawl over to see him, or squirm out of our arms, if we are holding him. Ryan can also get Derek laughing better than anyone. I hope their friendship only gets closer as they grow up.

Bedtime Fun
Ryan was hilarious before bed last night. Clayton and I were both distracted, playing on the computer. I noticed that Ryan was being really quiet, which is never a good sign. I thought I should go check on him. This is how I found him:
A little bit later, we were saying his prayers. He’s starting to catch on to the idea and will, mumbling, repeat something sounding remotely like we are saying. So last night we were thanking Heavenly Father and asking him for things. Clayton was helping him, and said, “Help me to be a good boy.” Instead of copying him, Ryan responded with a resounding “Noooooooo.” We had to pause mid-prayer to keep our giggles under control. It was pretty funny. Sometimes it is so easy to love this little boy.

Strawberry Sparkles
We did an easy, yummy craft today that I thought I would share. I got the idea from FamilyFun.com. This is one of my new favorite websites, by the way.
Their website calls for a cream cheese mixed with a little powder sugar, vanilla, and milk but my cream cheese was still too cold to mix well, so I borrowed an idea from my good friend. Her favorite way to eat strawberries is with sour cream and brown sugar. So I used sour cream instead and it worked just fine. Then we dipped in colored sugar. I bought the blue and yellow from the store and tried making the pink with sugar and food coloring. It worked pretty well, but dissolved really quickly.
Here is Ryan enjoying his strawberries once we were all done:

Sick
This little guys is usually very healthy, but he his sick for the second time in a month. I think that his immune system was already worn down a little from his last cold, so when this nasty virus came along, he didn't stand a chance. This is the sickest that I have ever seen him. His fever got up to 103. He's had a runny nose, a slight cough, and had thrown up a couple of times. Poor guy. I hope he feels better soon!

Wildlife Experience Museum
This morning we went to the Wildlife Experience here in Parker. We got a really good deal through Groupon and decided to take advantage of it. It's a nice little museum with a few live animals, but mostly taxidermy and plastic animals. They have a variety of animals from different habitats. They did a really good job making the exhibits interactive and life like. There was actually some snow(frozen wet stuff, not just fake plastic) falling in one of the areas. Included with the Groupon was tickets to one of their movies about animals. It had clips of animals, music, and rhyming dialogue. It was pretty cute. What a fun morning!Thursday, April 7, 2011
Ryan
What a cute little boy we have! What a busy little boy we have. He is constantly on the go, but occasionally he still cuddles, which is nice. He is growing so fast. He is finally catching on the some of the baby sign that we have been teaching him. He can do at least 25 different signs. I think he is enjoying being able to communicate what he wants, and let me tell you, he KNOWS what he wants. He really is a sweet little guy and we are so happy to have him in our family.

Brushing Teeth
It's never too early to start teaching children to brush their teeth.
Yesterday we went to the dentist. Usually when I go they give a cheap toothbrush to take home. The office that we went to, however, gave us these electric toothbrushes. Too bad we just bought some for Christmas. Ryan might be able to get some use out of it though...

First hair cut
Ryan had is first hair cut a few weeks back. We were sad to say goodbye to those baby curls, but they were starting to look matted no matter what we did. We cut it ourselves with the clippers. I think they scared him, though, because he was really upset once we were all done. He is growing up so fast. Each day he is looking more and more like a little boy and less like a baby.

Snow
So it FINALLY snowed in Parker. I'm not going to pretend that I didn't enjoy the warm weather, but it just didn't feel like Fall. But finally the cold is here, and I think it's here to stay. I doubt we will be seeing the 70's until next Spring. Now this wasn't Ryan's first snow, but this is the first time I took him out to play in it. He wasn't sure what to think. He just watched it and hesitantly reached for it with his gloved hands. What a cute little Eskimo we have:)

One year ago...
I can't believe that Ryan was born one year ago, today. Here are a few pictures from that very special day. We are so grateful for him and that he has joined our family. I can't imagine life without him.

Ryan's Birthday Party
We had a lot of fun today at Ryan's party. It had a rough start because birthday boy was so tired.
But once he got some cake and ice cream, he was feeling much better.
We tried to keep things pretty simple, but we had a few of his friends over and, of course, some cake and ice cream. Thanks to all of you who came and your generous gifts. I am so lucky to be blessed with such wonderful friends. And Happy Birthday to Ryan!

Hay Maze
We took Ryan to the maze on Mainstreet in Parker. We got some really cute pictures and had some fun. I wasn't sure how he would respond to the hay, but he didn't seem to mind. He, especially, enjoyed watching the other kids running around.
It's getting to be really pretty in Parker. You can see some of the leaved starting to change in these pictures. From now to the end of the year is my favorite time of the year. I love the holidays, the smells, the food, the family, the nip the air, hot chocolate...Welcome to the Fall!
In other news, Ryan cut two more teeth this week, bringing the grand total to four teeth.

First steps
Ryan took his first solo steps yesterday, and I couldn't be prouder. It is so much fun to see him get more and more independent as he learns to do new things. Yesterday's steps were "falling with style" but today, he took a step, made sure he had his balance, then took a few more quick steps before falling down. What a big boy! He also starting to look older to me, too. As I placed him down for a nap the other day, I noticed that his face is starting to look different, older.
I am convinced that being a mom is one of the best things in the world. I thought my heart was full when I married Clayton, but now I think it has grown to make room for all this love that I have for Ryan. I'm sure that it will grow bigger with each child that we have. It's funny how I can't imagine my life without these two amazing boys(well maybe one's a man:) in my life.
